Jewellery Care
Wearing Your Jewellery
All jewellery including precious jewellery will naturally tarnish and look dull if proper care has not been taken. Always protect your jewellery from knocks, scratches, chemicals, water, and too much direct sunlight to minimize these effects.
Care Instructions
• Remove jewellery when showering or bathing. This is particularly important when on the beach, in the sea and in chlorinated water and even more so with handmade jewellery
• Avoid wearing jewellery when doing physical work such as housekeeping, gardening or exercise.
• Never expose jewellery to household cleaning products, especially bleach and highly reactive solutions.
• Remove jewellery before spraying perfume or hairspray and when applying make-up, creams to avoid the residue getting into the texture or gemstone setting and reacting to any metals.
• Remove jewellery at bedtime, sleeping with jewellery on puts a lot of stress on chains, links, clasps, and stone settings.
General Jewellery Cleaning
Using a soft, lint free cloth is an effective way to keep silver, yellow and rose gold jewellery looking shiny and lustrous. Do not use tissue paper or paper towels to clean metal as they can cause scratching. Storing your jewellery in a pouch away from sunlight and daily elements
Gemstones
Gemstones are all on a different hardness scale. If you drop your gemstone on tiles, there is a good chance it will break. Another thing to be careful of is gemstones on longer necklaces that can swing forward and hit benches or tables. Depending on the gemstone, some can be more sensitive to scratches, if a minor scratch does occur, it can be polished out in most cases.
Since many gemstones are quite delicate, hot water, harsh chemicals and cleaners should always be avoided unless using special products that are safe. We advise cleaning your stones with a clean, soft, cloth after wearing.
Have a jeweller inspect your gemstone settings every 6 months to avoid any potential loss of gemstones. The settings can be delicate and move when knocked or caught in something
Shell
Shell is fragile and can easily chip or break if knocked or dropped on a harder surface
Fossils
Are very delicate are not recommended for everyday wear
Keepsake urn Jewellery
Urns hold our loved ones close or hold that something special such as a tiny piece of hair, sand, a petal from a flower.
The closures on urns whether being a thread or screw closure should be checked frequently, including the chains that hold pendant urns.
Urn jewellery can be professionally glued/sealed after they have been filled for peace of mind
